Meeting to agree collaboration with the Hampshire Genealogical Society to research the families of all participants in the 1830 Grand Assize. The Captain Swing Bicentenary to be represented at HGS Conference in July

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Plans proceeding for a CAPTAIN SWING LITERARY event in St. Mary’s on Saturday June 22 featuring the long poem Micheldever by J.R Ackerley in conjunction with Arthur Wood and readings of the Anti-Pastoral poets and William Cobbett by Professor Christopher Mulvey and Nigel Bradshaw

Programmes being developed for two sessions within the Hampshire Heritage Open Days in September (7th and 14th)

Bicentenary Committee now established (first meeting April 2) consisting of Professor Bill Lucas (CHAIR, English Project) , Edward Fennell (Project Co-Ordinator), Dr. Helen Paul (Talks and lectures), Professor Christopher Mulvey (Language of the Captain Swing era), Nicolas Lodge (Website), June Kershaw (Communities Liaison), Steve Marper (Genealogy and Australian Liaison).

A number of key roles - especially in relation to social media, promotion and fund-raising - remain to be filled.

Work is now advanced on the new website and it is hoped that it will be launched before the end of the next quarter

Negotiations with Jill Chambers over digitisation of Hampshire Machine Breakers have been successfully concluded and it is hoped that it will appear on the website by the end of this year.

A number of individuals are now pursuing research in Captain SWING related themes and activities which will mature in due course.

Work is now developing on strong links with the first FIVE SWING communities
